Carmi-White County Community Unit School District No. 5 offers a breakfast and hot lunch program to each student. Free or reduced rate meals are available utilizing ISBE guidelines. Contact your child’s school for further details.
Full-time custodians work to provide a clean and pleasant learning/working environment for district students and staff. In addition to keeping the buildings safe and clean, maintenance staff work year round to keep district facilities at optimal levels.
Fourteen bus routes (nine regular and five additional) are run daily in order to transport approximately 1,100 district students to and from school. Buses travel an average of 991 miles per day over the 290 square miles that encompass the district. A transportation director oversees this entire operation.
Safety Management and Worker Safety
Providing a safe working environment in the district is important. Custodians are trained annually in such areas as asbestos awareness, the use of personal protective equipment, and handling of hazardous materials. Annual building inspections are conducted by the Regional Office of Education and abatement of hazardous situations continues to be a goal of district personnel.
